At West Road School, families held their first clothes swap last Saturday. Parents brought clean clothes that their children no longer needed. For each item, they received a ticket. They could then use each ticket to choose one different item. Nobody paid money for the clothes.
At first, organiser Ella worried that people would only bring old T-shirts. In fact, there were coats, shoes and even two party dresses. The event was busy, but one table stayed almost empty: very few families brought clothes for teenagers.
The organisers gave the remaining clothes to a local charity. They want to hold another swap in autumn. Next time, they will ask a nearby secondary school to join them. Ella says the event helped families save money, but she also enjoyed seeing parents who had never met before talking over tea.
