When Mara lost her wedding ring from a small boat, she thought it was gone forever. The lake was deep near the middle, but she remembered taking off her gloves close to the landing stage. A local diving club offered to search that area during a supervised training session. They asked her to describe the ring and mark the likely location on a map.
The first search found only a rusty key. Mara was ready to give up, but the divers returned the following week and found the ring caught between stones. She thanked them with a meal at her café. What moved her most was not simply getting an object back: strangers had treated something important to her as worth their time.
