Writing focus

A qualified opinion can be clear: supporting a trial with conditions is still a position. Make the conditions concrete.

I would support a monthly car-free Sunday in the town centre, provided that the council planned access carefully and began with a short trial. First, a quieter centre would give people more space to meet. Families could walk between the square and the park without constantly crossing traffic. Local groups might also use the space for small activities, bringing people into town for reasons other than shopping. Second, the event could help residents imagine different ways of using familiar streets. A temporary change is less intimidating than a permanent one, so people could judge the experience for themselves. However, some residents depend on cars, and businesses need deliveries. The council should therefore maintain an accessible drop-off point and arrange delivery times before the closure begins. It should also ask affected residents what they need. On balance, I think the idea is worth testing. Its success should be judged by the experiences of different users, not only by an attractive photograph of an empty road.

This example illustrates structure and tone and may be shorter than the suggested range. Develop your own response.
