Writing focus

Headings help readers scan a report. A recommendation should respond to a finding rather than introduce an unrelated improvement.

Study room review Purpose This report considers how the college study room could better meet students' needs. It draws on three lunchtime visits and informal requests from students, so the findings should be treated as an initial picture rather than a complete survey. Current use All twenty-four seats were occupied on each visit. This suggests that lunchtime demand may exceed the available space. There are only six power sockets, which limits where students using laptops can sit. Noise was another issue. Group conversations were frequent, but some students wanted somewhere quiet to concentrate. At the same time, other students specifically requested space for collaborative work. A simple ban on discussion would therefore address only one need. Recommendations The college should trial separate quiet and discussion areas, using clear signs and an agreed review date. It should also investigate whether another room could open during the busiest period. Additional charging facilities would be helpful if the building team confirms that they can be installed safely. A short student survey should follow the trial. This would provide broader evidence before permanent changes are made.

This example illustrates structure and tone and may be shorter than the suggested range. Develop your own response.
