Lea's stage name was 'Diva of Magic', but behind the curtain she wore old trainers and carried her own boxes. Before her first theatre show, a helper suggested buying a larger, more expensive trick. Lea chose to practice the small tricks she already knew. On the night, a piece of equipment broke. She calmly moved to a card trick while her helper fixed it. Afterwards, a child asked how she had stayed so confident. Lea explained that she had prepared a second plan. Looking magical on stage, she said, required very ordinary work before the audience arrived.
