At our history club, we read an old newspaper headline about identifying an Egyptian queen's mummy. The headline sounded certain, but the article described researchers comparing several kinds of evidence. Our teacher asked us to separate three questions: what had been found, what researchers thought it meant, and what remained uncertain.
We did not have the original research report, so we could not judge every claim. Instead, we wrote a careful summary of the newspaper's account and clearly named it as our source. The exercise showed us that an exciting headline is a starting point for investigation, not the end of it.
