The Rock Garden in Chandigarh, India, is closely connected with its creator, Nek Chand. He began making it in his spare time, using materials that other people had thrown away. Broken objects became parts of sculptures and unusual spaces.

The result challenges a simple idea: something unwanted does not always have to remain useless. A visitor can look at the finished figures, but can also notice the small pieces used to build them. That second way of looking changes the experience. Instead of seeing only a beautiful place, visitors can think about imagination, patience and the possible future of discarded materials.
