Original fictional learning scenario. People, dialogue and personal experiences are created for language practice.

When my friends posted photographs from events, I often felt that my quiet evening had suddenly become a mistake. It did not matter that I had chosen to stay home because I wanted to read. Their photographs seemed to turn an alternative into a missed opportunity. I began accepting invitations I did not enjoy, then checking other people's posts while I was there.

Eventually, I noticed the contradiction: trying not to miss anything was stopping me from paying attention to what I had chosen. I started asking a simple question before agreeing to plans: would I want to go if nobody could post about it? The question did not remove every doubt. It helped me recognise when comparison, rather than interest, was making the decision. Some evenings remained quiet, but they felt like mine again.
