The demonstration flat had lights that followed visitors and curtains controlled by a phone. Our guide called every feature convenient. My grandfather asked how to turn on the heating if the internet stopped working. The guide showed him a wall control, and he looked relieved.
Later, my sister asked whether the system stored information about when people were home. That question took longer to answer. I still liked the clever lighting, but the visit changed what I wanted from a future home. New features should reduce effort without making ordinary tasks harder when something fails. I also wanted clear choices about information sharing, rather than a long agreement nobody had time to read.
