Original fictional learning scenario. People, dialogue and personal experiences are created for language practice.
In this fictional account, Adrian began checking cryptocurrency prices out of curiosity. Eventually, the checking itself became the centre of his day. He refreshed the screen during meals and measured his mood against movements that sometimes lasted only minutes. A friend assumed the problem would disappear if his holdings increased in value.
Adrian was less sure: on profitable days, he simply watched more closely because he feared losing the gains. When he described the pattern to someone he trusted, he focused on missed sleep, arguments and neglected work rather than trying to defend individual trades. The story does not diagnose him or propose an investment strategy. It asks readers to notice the difference between a financial outcome and the role an activity takes in a person's life. A rising number on a screen would not, by itself, answer the concerns Adrian had begun to recognise.
