See an illustrative response

A mystery built on small details The Lantern Room is an invented novel about a teenager who helps clear an old theatre and discovers that a room has been missing from its plans. Rather than rushing into danger, the main character begins asking questions about the people who used to work there. The book's greatest strength is its atmosphere. Ordinary details, such as a mark on a wall or an unfinished letter, gradually become important. The friendship between the two main characters also feels convincing because they disagree without immediately falling out. However, the middle section moves slowly. Several conversations repeat information the reader already knows, and I sometimes wanted the investigation to progress more quickly. Fortunately, the final chapters bring the earlier details together without relying on a completely new explanation. I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoy patient mysteries and interesting settings. Anyone looking for constant action might prefer something faster, but I found its quiet suspense rewarding.

This example illustrates structure and tone and may be shorter than the suggested range. Develop your own response.
